A script purporting to be from a never-aired episode of the sitcom Seinfeld has been confirmed to be authentic by a writer who worked on the 90s-era show.

The script for the episode, which has been a subject of intrigue among fans, was posted online earlier this month and features the character Elaine contemplating the purchase of a firearm.

The episode, known by the titles The Bet and The Gun, was intended for the show’s second season but was ultimately shelved due to its dark themes.

Writer Larry Charles verified the script’s authenticity to The Daily Beast, noting his own handwritten notes on the document.

“I haven’t gone through it page by page but it looks real, including my pencilled-in revisions,” Charles stated.

He also mentioned that the script seemed “funnier than I remember” but acknowledged its “very hard-edged” nature.

The episode’s content, which involved gun ownership and a bet between characters Jerry and George, was deemed too controversial for the time.

Tom Cherones, the episode’s intended director, expressed his discomfort with the subject matter in the past, stating, “In my opinion, guns aren’t funny.”
