Sara Higgins, founder of Hana, shares her favourite rituals for welcoming the new season and feeling your best, inside and out.
Spring is here, I’ve been watching the sunlight get a little brighter, things are moving faster, the ground around my farm is waking up. Freesias sprouting, the grapefruit tree overflowing. Your body’s probably doing the same: winter slowness wearing off, glimmers of new energy. Lately I’ve been feeling the impulse to shake off any lingering stiffness, here’s a few of my favourite ways to do so.
I like to keep my routine simple, thoughtful and, most importantly, easily accessible so that there’s also something joyful I can dip into when needed most.
1. Red Light Therapy
I love to escape to our PBM Red Light Therapy pod for a mid-day session while I’m in the studio at Hana. Just 20-minutes gives me an energy boost to get through the afternoon. I recently injured my shoulder so extra sessions have been helping to support my recovery too.
2. Whole foods
Many of us, often myself included, aren’t eating enough. We’re running on fumes, giving everything to everyone else, and wondering why we feel depleted. A change in season is the perfect opportunity to start prioritising nutrition differently. I focus on eating seasonally, incorporating organ meats, seafood and plenty of saturated fats to fuel my body. With summer bringing an abundance of carbs, I’ll be adding more of those in too. Sometimes high-quality supplements when whole foods aren’t enough.
Real, nutrient-dense fuel. Not restriction or rules, but abundance and nourishment.
3. Grounding
Connecting my bare feet to the earth is a simple technique that I love to do daily, whether I’m out weeding in the garden or collecting the eggs with my children. Earth’s natural charge keeps me in rhythm, something my sleep and stress levels are better off for.

4. Lymphatic Beauty Tools
You’ll often catch me in the car using my lymphatic brush by Cecily Braden on my face, a gentle way to sculpt and support lymphatic drainage (just don’t forget to open up the lymph nodes on your neck and chest first with a bit of self massage).
Lately, I’ve been adding dry brushing to my infrared sauna sessions as an energising addition to my routine. It’s also an easy ritual to incorporate before your shower, even if sauna sessions aren’t your thing.
5. Finishing the Shower on Cold
Another simple one I love is finishing my daily shower with cold water. It can feel a little jarring at first, so I recommend starting with 30 seconds and gradually building from there. Cold water immersion gives an instant endorphin boost.
