When the world feels a little dark, fashion can bring people together for something bigger than style.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Cure is harnessing the power of New Zealand fashion to fund vital research. Through its Tees for a Cure collection and Fashion for a Cure runway events, the organisation unites designers and communities behind a shared cause. With more than $12 million in research grants funded over nearly three decades, BCC is proof that fashion’s influence can help drive meaningful change.
“These events bring together the best of New Zealand design and the generosity of communities nationwide. Joyful and meaningful events with a serious purpose – moving us closer to a cure for breast cancer,” says Sonja de Mari, CEO of Breast Cancer Cure.
And BCC isn’t alone. Across the Tasman, Australian label Camilla and Marc is using fashion to spark change through its Ovaries. Talk About Them. campaign. Its slogan tees have helped raise awareness of ovarian cancer while generating more than A$2.5 million for early-detection research.
Fashion for a Cure heads to Marlborough
On Thursday 29 October, Juliette Hogan Presents: Fashion for a Cure arrives at Oak & Ivy in Blenheim for an evening of fashion, food and fundraising.
Hosted by actress and BCC ambassador Antonia Prebble, the event will feature an exclusive runway presentation of Juliette’s latest collection, a conversation with the designer, live and silent auctions, and a dining experience celebrating Marlborough’s finest – all in support of breast cancer research.
“Our designers are the heartbeat of our Fashion for a Cure series. Talented New Zealanders around the country give their creativity to a cause that matters. With one woman diagnosed with breast cancer every three hours in Aotearoa, every show helps fund the research that will change that,” says Sonja de Mari.
