A 31-year-old man has been charged with assault and a breach of protection order after the death of a woman in Paraparaumu overnight.
Kāpiti-Mana area commander Inspector Renée Perkins said the man was known to the woman.
Last night, police were called to an address on Chums Rd at about 9.50pm after reports of an assault.
“Despite the best efforts of police and other emergency services, the woman has sadly died at the scene,” Perkins said.
A 31-year-old was expected to appear in Porirua District Court today.
Police advised there would be an increased presence in the area as the investigation continued.
“We believe there is no ongoing risk to the public,” said Perkins.
“Police are also working to support the family of the victim and offer our sincere condolences.”
