A woman has been arrested after the death of a 67-year-old man in Gisborne in October.

Police were called at about 4.20am on October 28 after a man was taken to Gisborne Hospital with severe injuries and later died.

Initial inquiries indicated the man’s injuries were sustained at a residence on Tolerton Ave, Elgin, a spokesperson said at the time.

He was later named by police as 67-year-old Wayne Tamahori Dewes.

A 27-year-old woman will appear in Gisborne District Court today charged with murder in relation to the incident.

Police investigating the death launched an appeal for sightings of a person on a bicycle in the area on the night of the incident.

Detective Inspector David de Lange said police were pleased to have made an arrest and hoped it brought some sense of reassurance to whānau and the wider community.

“Police would like to extend our thanks to those members of the public who have come forward with information.”
