A southern window company is “very chuffed” to have been recognised for its work on an award-winning Central Otago home.

Design Windows was named the winner of the Otago, Southland and West Coast residential design category at the 2025 Window & Glass Association (WGANZ) Awards, in Auckland last month.

The South Island door and window specialists took out the award for its work on Openfield House, a residential property in the Crown Range.

Managing director John Hancock said they were “very chuffed” with the award.

The company had entered into the awards over the past 18 years and, while being named runner-up in several categories, had found it pretty hard to come away as a winner.

For the aluminium joinery industry, the award was “as good as we can get”, Mr Hancock said.

“So we’re pretty stoked. It’s a very rewarding project as well.

“It means a lot to the company, but also to the staff involved that make the joinery and install it.

“We’re pretty proud for all involved to share that win, that success, as a team.”

Openfield House, designed by architectural design firm Keshaw McArthur, had previously been named a winner of the 2025 Southern Architecture Awards, announced last month.

Devon Scott from the Design Windows Dunedin branch was also named “Most Promising Apprentice” for architectural aluminium joinery at the WGANZ awards.

It was “quite a big deal” to be recognised on this scale, Mr Scott said.

“It was pretty cool to be recognised for all the work that I’ve done.”
