A presenter on a UK gardening programme says he’s gained “a bit of street cred” after his jeans were blurred out on North Korean TV.

According to the BBC, An episode of Alan Titchmarsh’s Garden Secrets from 2010 was aired on the secretive country’s state-run Central TV for its morning audience.

Those who saw the broadcast outside the hermit kingdom quickly noticed his trousers had been blurred out – with viewers unable to see the clothing items.

This is likely because jeans are seen as a symbol of western imperialism in the country, and are banned.

When speaking to the BBC, Titchmarsh joked: “It’s taken me to reach the age of 74 to be regarded in the same sort of breath as Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart.

“You know, wearing trousers that are generally considered by those of us of a sensitive disposition to be rather too tight.

“I’ve never seen myself as a dangerous subversive imperialist. I’m generally regarded as rather cosy and pretty harmless, so actually, it’s given me a bit of street cred, really, hasn’t it?”

It was not known how North Korea got a hold of the episode or why it was chosen.

Titchmarsh said he was “surprised” to see his face was being aired on North Korean screens.
