Firefighters have extinguished a blaze which “significantly damaged” one property and spread to another in Auckland’s Swanson last night.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said it received multiple calls to a house on fire in the Swanson area shortly before 7pm yesterday.

Speaking from the scene on Candia Rd, senior station officer Geoff Gardner told 1News when crews arrived one house was “well involved” and fire was spreading to an adjourning property.

“The first house has suffered significant damage, the second property has a bit of damage externally and it broke a window and there’s a bit of damage to the kitchen,” he said.

“But the good work of the crews, they managed to cut that fire off, go in and push that fire back out the window so the second house has been saved.”

At its peak, there were five fire trucks, two water tankers and multiple support vehicles at the scene with around 26 firefighters.

The last truck left shortly after 11pm, and a fire investigator also attended.
