A reported sighting of a man with a gun has led police to a cache of drugs as well as a firearm and ammo in south Auckland.

The two men face charges after allegedly being found in possession of a gun, ammunition, cash, methamphetamine and cannabis when stopped by armed police in Manurewa yesterday.

Counties Manukau Central Area Commander Inspector Adam Pyne said police responded to a report that a man was in possession of a gun around 5.30pm yesterday.

“This man then got into a vehicle and left the area with another man.

“Local staff and the police Eagle helicopter responded to the area, with an armed traffic stop conducted on Wordsworth Rd.”

Pyne said police found a gun along with ammunition, cash, methamphetamine and cannabis.

Both men were taken into custody, and were scheduled to appear in Manukau District Court today.

A 19-year-old man was charged with two counts of unlawfully possessing a firearm, threatening to kill, burglary, possessing cannabis and possessing methamphetamine for supply.

A 24-year-old man faced charges of threatening to kill, burglary, possessing cannabis and possessing methamphetamine for supply.
