Two men have been arrested and charged following the death of a man in the Napier CBD earlier this week.

Police were called to the scene near the intersection of Emerson and Hastings streets around 3.15am on December 18, following reports of a person lying in the street. The person could not be revived.

The man was formally named as Boy Taylor, 58, on Friday.

A post-mortem examination was completed which confirmed he had sustained injuries consistent with an assault, said Detective Inspector David de Lange.

“Two men, aged 21 and 33, have been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and are expected to appear in Hastings District Court on Monday, December 23, 2024.

“Police cannot rule out the possibility of further arrests and charges.”
