Three serious crashes have taken place across the North Island in just over three hours this afternoon.

Emergency services responded to crashes in Auckland, Waikato, and the Bay of Plenty beginning just before 1pm.

Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Tāneatua, south of Whakatāne, around 12.45pm today.

Hato Hone St John said it responded with two ambulances, one rapid response unit, one manager, and one helicopter.

“Our crews assessed and treated one patient in a serious condition who was airlifted to Tauranga Hospital and one patient in a moderate condition who was transported to Rotorua Hospital via road,” a spokesperson said.

It was followed by a second incident which saw one person receive serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Whakamaru, south of Tokoroa, around 1.31pm.

Police said the crash took place at the intersection of Tihoi Rd and Poihipi Rd.

Hato Hone St John responded with two ambulances and one helicopter.

One person was airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition, a St John spokesperson said.

Emergency services are currently responding to a two-vehicle crash in Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast which was reported around 4.05pm.

“The incident was heard by an ambulance crew while attending a nearby address and were soon on scene,” a spokesperson said.

One person was treated at the scene before being taken to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.

The road is blocked and diversions are in place at Bay St and Whangaparāoa Rd, police said.

It comes after two people were killed following a two-vehicle crash near Queenstown last night.
