A teen has been arrested following the alleged ram-raid of a jewellery store as staff were closing in Auckland last month.

The 18-year-old, who was evading police, was found in the Mt Roskill area and arrested.

The teenager was one of six people who allegedly targeted a jewellery store in Newmarket on the evening of April 12.

“A stolen Toyota Aqua reversed into the store on Broadway, while several staff were closing,” Detective Sergeant Joseph Niupopo said in a statement at the time.

Employees locked themselves in a back room while the group used hammers and tyre irons to break cabinets.

Three people aged between 17 and 18 were charged following the incident, while a 14-year-old was referred to Youth Aid.

“The investigation team continues to make progress and inquiries will continue into other incidents,” Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said today.

“We cannot rule out further arrests or charges being laid.”
