A change of leadership is nearing at TRENDS, the promotional products supplier originally known as Tuapeka Gold Print.

Long-serving chief executive Greg Jolly will hand over the top job to chief commercial officer Pat Robertson — son of the company’s founder — on July 1.

The company, founded by Jim Robertson in Lawrence 38 years ago, relocated to Fairfield, on the outskirts of Dunedin, in 2014. It now employed nearly 600 people and was the largest supplier of promotional products in Australasia.

In a statement, independent chairman Paul Moodie said the board was delighted to be able to transition the role so smoothly.

“Late last year Greg flagged to the board his intention to move on to new adventures by the end of this year, giving us plenty of time to appoint his successor. Together, he and Pat have been the architects of the company’s phenomenal growth over the past decade, so Pat’s succession to the CEO role is entirely natural,” he said.

Mr Jolly had steered the business through the challenges of new markets, a global pandemic and huge fluctuations in market demand as economic conditions changed.

He had also overseen the expansion of the firm’s footprint to a manufacturing and warehousing site totalling more than 17,000 sq m, Mr Moodie said.

Pat Robertson joined the business full-time after leaving university in 2008, first in IT and production then taking over as sales and marketing manager in 2012, the same year he joined the board. Mr Jolly would continue to work on projects through to December. — APL
