Dozens of stun devices, knives, pepper spray, and cannabis have been seized after police shut down a social media operation involving the alleged sale of the restricted items in Auckland yesterday.

Officers searched a home on Blockhouse Bay as part of an ongoing investigation into the sale of Tasers and Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray – also known as pepper spray – on Facebook.

“The investigation led us to the address where we located a person of interest in this case,” Auckland City West Area Commander, Inspector Alisse Robertson said.

During the search, police found 29 canisters of OC spray, 27 stun guns, and more than 1.6kg of cannabis.

“Concerningly a large number of these were all set up and ready for sale.”

A 28-year-old woman was arrested at the home.

She is due to appear in the Auckland District Court today on a representative charge of possessing a restricted weapon, as well as possession for supply of cannabis, Robertson said.

She said police are opposing her bail.

Inspector Robertson added: “This is a really good outcome for the community, with dozens of these dangerous weapons out of circulation and another supply line shut down.”

Inquiries will continue as a result of the search warrant. she said.
