A search and rescue mission is preparing to resume, weather permitting, for three climbers reported missing after attempting to summit Aoraki / Mount Cook yesterday morning.
The men were due to complete their climb at 8.30am but failed to meet their prearranged transport, police said, and a missing persons report was made to police at 12.45pm on Monday.
Police Search and Rescue and Department of Conservation Search and Rescue were working together to locate the trio, with the teams this morning assessing weather conditions to determine whether search efforts could resume.
The search was paused shortly before 8pm on Monday night, due to weather conditions on the mountain.
A helicopter and specialist search and rescue personnel searched on the mountain throughout Monday afternoon and into the evening until the conditions deteriorated.
The would “resume when weather conditions allow”, police said, in a statement.
