A school was placed in lockdown after an incident involving a person with a gun this afternoon.

Police say they were called following a “family harm matter” involving a person reported to have a firearm on Whiteleigh Ave.

Around 10 to 15 police patrol cars, an ambulance, and the armed offenders squad were called to the scene around 2.08pm.

“Two people from that address are assisting police with our enquiries to locate the person of interest, who is no longer believed to be in the area,” police said.

“Another person involved in the initial incident has been transported to hospital with moderate injuries.”

Police are seeking a person of interest following an incident in Addington which saw one person injured.

Addington Te Kura Taumatua, on nearby Brougham St, was in lockdown as a precaution, but has since been lifted.

“Parents are able to collect their children as usual,” police said.

“Police acknowledge that this may have been unsettling for the young people whose school went into lockdown and appreciate their support.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine what has occurred.”
