Christchurch police are investigating major security breaches at two construction sites of large-scale anchor projects in the city with the exploits being filmed and posted online.

The creator has this week posted a video from deep inside the Parakiore Metro Sports facility – a $696 million dollar venue under construction and expected to be completed later this year.

In the video, they can be seen sitting of the diving boards and trekking down the hydroslides.

The same account then posted a night-tour of the under-construction Te Kaha stadium site in January. The $683 million project is scheduled to open in April 2026.

Both construction sites are surrounded by high fencing.

A spokesperson for Crown Infrastructure Delivery said the filming inside Parakiore took place last October when construction was less advanced.

CPB Contractors was the main builder on the project and maintained security on the site.

BESIX Watpac was building the One New Zealand Stadium. It said no damage was caused to the site but that an internal investigation into site security was undertaken.

Security expert Matt Wood said the person was likely trying to gain notoriety online.

“If you look at the videos, there’s no vandalism of any kind, it’s obviously an ego thing, it’s click bait.”

The main security measures at the sites looked to be fencing and cameras, he said.

“Some reconnaissance has gone on in there to find out where the cameras are and slip past them.”

Police were currently investigating the footage and trying to identify those responsible.

Neither CPB nor BESIX Watpac said whether security was boosted as a result of the incidents.
