A man was critically injured in what police described as an “extremely violent assault” near the Māngere Town Centre early this morning.
A person was located severely injured on Bader Drive at around 2.30am.
A police camera operator established that an altercation between two parties occurred at the location at around 1.40am.
“The victim was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a critical but stable condition, after being subjected to an extremely violent assault,” a police spokesperson said.
“The operator was able to track the offender’s movements from where he left the scene, guiding the Police Eagle helicopter and ground units to his location.”

He was found in the nearby area and quickly taken into custody.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and would be appearing in the Manukau District Court today charged with assault.
Police were not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.
