A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a fatal shooting in Auckland’s Onehunga last night.
Police gave an update on the homicide investigation this afternoon.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Darvill said a 32-year-old man will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow charged with murder.
“Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the death, and we hope the swift arrest helps reassure members of the community.”
It followed the incident at a Selwyn Rd address last night “where a man sustained a fatal gunshot wound,” police said. Emergency services were alerted at about 9.45pm.
Emergency services attended and first aid was given but the man died at the scene.
Darvill said earlier today: “A scene guard has been in place overnight, and a scene examination will commence this morning.”
Footage taken by 1News showed a large emergency services presence near mechanic Midas Onehunga overnight.
Police in white coveralls could be seen taking photos and they later put up a blue tent.
A number of armed officers could also be seen.
“Inquiries are now underway to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred,” Darvill said earlier on Sunday.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 105 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
