A man has been charged after a gun was fired towards a vehicle in a carpark outside an Auckland supermarket last night.

Police said it was called to a Hobsonville supermarket at around 4.40pm on Wednesday.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Renfree said the incident appeared to be an altercation between two groups of people and that there were no reports of injury in relation to the gunshot.

However, one person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries after being injured with a weapon.

Police believed it was an “isolated incident” and said inquiries were ongoing to identify further offenders.

A 24-year-old man was charged with wounding with intent and reckless discharge of a firearm.

He was expected to appear in the Waitākere District Court later today.
