State Highway 6 has reopened after a slip between Hira and Rai Valley previously closed the main route between Nelson and Blenheim.

New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said SH6 is now open under a traffic light stop/go.

In a statement, NZTA Waka Kotahi said a 30km/h speed limit remains in the area on Whangamoa Hill.

“The highway was closed for safety reasons at around 5.30am this morning after a slip brought rocks and debris onto the road. It was reopened at around [4.30pm] this afternoon.”

They noted a further update will be provided tomorrow at midday, regarding further work required to fix the slip, and how it will affect road users.
