Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will be heading to the United States this month, where he will attend the NATO Summit and meet with various other lawmakers.

The PM will head to Washington DC on 9 July, where he plans to attend the NATO Summit – a meeting of the 32 nations that make up the alliance as well as other partners.

Luxon plans to meet with leaders from across the NATO countries, including counterparts from Australia, Japan, and Korea.

“Prosperity is only possible with security, with our discussions set to focus on our collective efforts to support the rules-based system”, Luxon said about the summit.

While in DC, Luxon will also meet with members of the US administration and Congress.

“The United States is the world’s largest economy and our second biggest trading partner. It plays a leading role in world affairs,” he said.

“It is imperative that we have good relationships with key American decision-makers so they understand what New Zealand is trying to achieve in the world.”

Luxon will then jet off to San Francisco in California on a mission to boost business and investment links between New Zealand and the Golden State.

“If it were a country on its own, California would be the fifth biggest economy in the world, ranked between Japan and India,” Luxon said.

“I look forward to building a positive relationship with this great state and forging stronger links with its businesses and investors as part of our wider plan to rebuild New Zealand’s economy.”
