An inquiry is underway to “determine if anyone is missing” after a vessel was found capsized off Northland’s Doubtless Bay this afternoon.

A member of the public alerted the Coastguard to the incident near Berghan Point / Te Whatu just before 12pm, a Coastguard spokesperson told 1News.

“Volunteers from Houhora and Whangaroa have completed a search and are currently bringing the vessel back to shore.”

The spokesperson said volunteers are working alongside police to “determine if anyone is missing”.
