Broadcaster Simon Barnett has shared a message to Kiwis, thanking them for their messages of love after he opened up about the devastating loss of his wife.

Barnett appeared on the Between Two Beers podcast earlier this week, where he frankly discussed his grief after his wife Jodi died after a five-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer.

In the podcast, the 58-year-old More FM host talked about how he felt in the wake of her death.

“I would give everything up in a heartbeat to have Jodi back.”

Jodi Barnett died at their family home in Christchurch in October 2023. She was 61. The couple were married for over three decades and raised four daughters.

Last night, in a post to More FM’s Breakfast Club’s social media accounts, Barnett thanked his fans for their support following the appearance.

“I just want to tell you how the 000’s of messages have encouraged me so very much, and my children.

“Doing what I do for a living, people think you are bulletproof, as you know, I am not.”

He said that reading the messages sent to him had given him a feeling of “an incredible depth of love”.

Barnett said he also “cherished” hearing other people’s stories.

“As I said in the podcast, it’s a club none of us want to belong to, but in a very bizarre way, we are all members together, and that is a comfort.”

He closed his message by reflecting on love.

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
