Gloriavale Christian School will remain on notice despite providing Government officials with an updated action plan.
The private school had failed to meet three of the eight registration criteria, with a July Education Review Office report determining that it was not a physically and emotionally safe space for students
School leaders were asked to provide an action plan to fix the school’s issues to avoid its registration being suspended or cancelled.
Yesterday, officials from the Ministry of Education met with the principal and the Board of Trustees to review the school’s updated plan and supporting evidence.
Ministry spokesperson Coralanne Child said they were given documentation and examples of how the school is addressing the three unmet registration criteria.
“Ministry staff are now undertaking a detailed assessment of the material provided to determine whether sufficient and sustained improvements have been made.
“The Ministry will advise the school of next steps once this evaluation is complete.”
Child said the Notice to Comply remained in effect as the Ministry continued its formal process.
“Until the Ministry is satisfied that all criteria have been fully addressed, the notice will remain in place.”
Last week, the Children’s Commissioner, Dr Claire Achmad, called for the urgent closure of the school. She said she had zero confidence that students were safe.
Gloriavale’s leader Stephen Standfast has been approached for comment.
