Police are holding a press conference in Hamilton to provide an update on the investigation into Tom Phillips, a day after the fugitive was killed in a shootout and his children were found.

Police Commissioner Richard Chambers, Deputy Commissioner Jill Rogers, and Police Minister Mark Mitchell would be in attendance.

Phillips was fatally shot by police early Monday morning in Waikato after allegedly firing at an officer during a burglary response near Piopio.

One police officer was critically injured and airlifted to Waikato Hospital for multiple surgeries.

One of Phillips’ children was found at the scene and taken into police custody.

The other two children were found “well and uninjured” at a campsite yesterday evening.
