A recall has been issued for Vimms Enterprises Ltd’s Deep brand of frozen vegetables due to the possible presence of Salmonella.

The affected products included all batches and dates of Deep’s Sprouted Mat, Sprouted Moong beans and Surti Undhiu Mix.

The products were sold at Arjun Supermarket on Rankin Ave in New Lynn; Lotus Supermarket on Cavendish Dr in Manukau; and Yogiji’s Supermarket on Lincoln Rd in Henderson. Surti Undhiu Mix (vegetable mix) was also sold in ethnic supermarkets nationwide.

“Salmonellosis can be serious, so it is important that people do not eat these products,” New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle said.

“If you have any at home you can return them to the place of purchase for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw it out.”

Symptoms could appear within 12 to 72 hours of infection and included diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting.

“Illness usually lasts between four and seven days but, in more severe cases, it can go on for up to 10 days and cause more serious illness,” Arbuckle said.

“If you have consumed any of this product and are concerned for your health, contact your health professional, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free advice.”

New Zealand Food Safety had not been alerted to any reports of associated illness.

“As is our usual practice, NZFS will work with importers to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence.”

The affected products were imported and were subject to recalls in USA and Australia.

The products have been removed from store shelves and have not been re-exported.
