Five people have been injured, two critically, after a two-vehicle crash north of Palmerston North this afternoon.
Emergency services were notified of the crash on Ashhurst Rd, Bunnythorpe at around 2.15pm.
Police said traffic was being diverted while emergency services respond and the serious crash unit conducts a scene examination.
St John said it responded to the crash with five ambulances, one rapid response unit, one operations manager and two helicopters.
“Two patients, both in critical conditions, were airlifted to Wellington Hospital,” a spokesperson said.
“Three further patients, all in serious conditions, transported to Palmerston North Hospital by ambulance.”
