Crowded House are gearing up for a major tour of New Zealand and Australia later this year.

The much-loved band’s new album Gravity Stairs is out next Friday, and fans will be able to hear the songs live in November and December. General public ticket sales will be available at midday next Thursday through the band’s website.

“So looking forward to getting amongst our people having practised in the northern hemisphere for a few months,” Neil Finn said.

“The band will be running hot and we can’t wait to sing with you and elevate our collective spirits.”

Finn said the album’s name was inspired by a stone near where he goes on holiday.

“The Gravity Stairs are symbolic of the struggle to ascend, acknowledging the opposing forces of weight on the mechanics of living.

“It’s an act of will every day,” he said.

The band will play Wellington’s TSB Arena on November 9; Dunedin’s Town Hall on November 12; Christchurch’s Wolfbrook Arena on November 13; Palmerston North’s Regent on Broadway on November 19; Tauranga’s Mercury Baypark Arena on November 20; Hamilton’s Globox Arena at Claudelands on November 22; and Auckland’s Spark Arena on November 23.

After that, they’ll head over the ditch for shows in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane.
