If fashion is about silhouette, proportion and texture, then consider this your cue: the most stylish room in Auckland this week isn’t a runway – it’s a pop-up.
Wellington-born cult favourite Acme Cups is hosting a week-long pop-up shop across NZ Design Week (March 2–10), and for the first time in Aotearoa, every facet of the brand – cutlery, dinnerware, mugs and cups – will exist together in one beautifully considered space. Think less retail, more installation. Less stockroom, more styling suite.
Following its first international pop-up in Amsterdam in October 2025, the move feels confident – global, but grounded. Co-Founder Megan is bringing the concept home to Auckland, and the timing couldn’t feel more aligned.
“We’re really proud of the brand’s NZ heritage, and partnering with NZ Design Week to celebrate that was a no-brainer,” she says.

And heritage, right now, is having a moment. In fashion, we’re craving legacy labels, archival references, pieces with provenance. Acme sits comfortably in that same space – a brand that has quietly shaped café culture aesthetics for over a decade. If you’ve ever posted a flat white in perfect light, chances are it was served in Acme.

The 150ml Rule (A Masterclass in Proportion)
When we asked Megan which piece she reaches for on repeat, her answer was immediate: the Classic Cup Small Weka.
One of the first colours the brand ever released, it’s a design classic – and in her view, the only correct way to serve a flat white.
“A 150ml cup with beautifully textured milk – nothing more, nothing less.”
In fashion terms? It’s tailoring. It’s knowing when to stop at the perfect hemline. In a culture of upsizing and excess, insisting on 150ml feels almost couture – precise, intentional, disciplined. The cup isn’t just a vessel; it’s a proportion statement.

From Tabletop to Tablescape
What makes this pop-up particularly FNZ-coded is the chance to see Acme as a complete lifestyle proposition. The cutlery – sleek and weighted like a well-cut blazer. The dinnerware – neutral but directional, the quiet luxury of ceramics. The mugs and cups – those signature colourways that function like the perfect accessory.
Together, they read like a capsule collection for your kitchen.
This is the first time in New Zealand that the entire offering has been presented simultaneously, and that alone feels significant. In the same way we obsess over a designer’s full runway vision, there’s something satisfying about seeing Acme’s world in totality – every curve, glaze and finish considered as part of a cohesive narrative.

Coffee as Performance
Megan’s world revolves around coffee, so naturally, this isn’t just a static display. Coffees will be available for tasting daily from 1pm – and if fashion is theatre, coffee here is performance art.
Because Acme has always understood that design is only complete when it’s used. The way a handle sits between fingers. The way textured milk folds into espresso. The way colour photographs against natural light in Britomart. It’s tactile, social, almost cinematic.

The Details
The Acme Pop-Up Shop will take over 52 Tyler Street, Britomart, open to the public during:
-
Tuesday 3 March – Friday 6 March: 11am – 6pm
-
Saturday 7 March: 10am – 6pm
-
Sunday 8 March: 10am – 3pm
Consider this your invitation to treat your morning ritual like a wardrobe upgrade. Because just as the right bag elevates an outfit, the right cup elevates your coffee.
And this season? 150ml is the only size that matters.
