A child is fighting for their life after being struck by a vehicle in a Canterbury town this afternoon.
Emergency responders were called to the scene in Rolleston at around 3.15pm.
A police spokesperson said the crash “involved a vehicle and a pedestrian on Rolleston Dr near Kidman St.”
“The serious crash unit has been advised. The road is blocked and diversions are being put in place, motorists are advised to take an alternate route.”
Police confirmed to 1News that a child was involved in the incident.
The person injured was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, St John said.
An ambulance and two rapid response vehicles were deployed to the scene.
