Expressions of interest to take over operational functions at Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium will be sought as an open procurement process launches next week.

Currently operated by its owner, Auckland Council-controlled organisation Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (TAU), the intent of the six-week process is to determine whether an operator is able to drive “positive” community and financial outcomes for the stadium.

Launching the process is the result of a locally-led working group set up to “provide clarity on the future vision and role” of North Harbour Stadium and the Domain Precinct.

TAU chief executive Nick Hill said all parties were committed to reaching a positive outcome for the benefit of the stadium and the wider community.

“We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the local board members who have driven this process to date, where we have provided valuable insight into the existing and past operations of the venue.”

TAU would continue to operate the venue until a new operator was appointed, he added.

“We are looking forward to a bright future for North Harbour Stadium and will continue to support the steering group through this process.

Upper Harbour Local Board chairperson Anna Atkinson said it was an “exciting step for the stadium’s future”.

“Whether it’s through increased use of the stadium or engagement with the local community, we are hopeful that this EOI is the start of a process of positive change at North Harbour Stadium.”

Hibiscus and Bay Local Board chairperson Alexis Poppelbaum said successful parties would need to demonstrate how they would improve the financial performance as well as the connection with the local community.

“We have worked closely with the community on the North Shore and with TAU to arrive at this step and now look forward to welcoming submissions from interested parties over the next six weeks.”
