A 32-year-old man has been charged with 10 counts of burglary after allegedly stealing several electric keyboards from the University of Auckland overnight — with a return trip leaving him facing the music.

Auckland City Central response manager Senior Sergeant Dave Plunkett said the first burglary occurred at around 10.30pm, when the alleged offender loaded several stolen electric pianos and keyboards into a vehicle.

“He returned just after 1am and entered the same building but, this time, was seen by a security guard.

“The offender dropped a keyboard he was carrying and fled,” said Plunkett.

Police found a vehicle of interest outside a hostel in Eden Terrace, where officers went in and arrested the alleged light-fingered felon.

“He was in possession of a large amount of cash and three musical keyboards, valued at around $350 each,” Plunkett said

Police said a 32-year-old man was due to appear in the Auckland District Court today charged with 10 counts of burglary, along with a charge of possessing methamphetamine for supply and shoplifting.
