Chase host Bradley Walsh appeared to be in disbelief when Chaser Anne Hegerty took a personal jab at him in a recent episode of the game show.

In the episode, a contestant named Suzanne mentioned she enjoyed watching Coronation Street in her spare time with her husband.

Earlier in his career, Walsh played the role of Danny Baldwin in the British soap from 2004 to 2006, and was written out of the show after he moved on to other roles.

In the episode shown recently in the UK, Hegerty – known to viewers as The Governess – took Walsh by surprise.

“Hi Suzanne, I like Corrie. It’s full of good actors… I mean it is now, it used to be a bit rubbish,” said Hegerty.

Walsh appeared to be in disbelief at the dig.

“Well, that’s unnecessary isn’t it,” he responded.

After recovering from the insult, Walsh then continued with his role as the host of the show. And after going up against the Chaser, Suzanne walked away empty-handed.

Hegerty has starred on The Chase for the past 15 years. In April, 1News revealed she could also appear in The Chase New Zealand to face Kiwi contestants alongside host Paul Henry.

The four-part special was filmed in Sydney earlier this year, and its premiere date will be announced at a later date.

The original version of The Chase, created by UK network ITV, first aired in 2009.

It stars Bradley Walsh, with the six chasers being Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis.

The series is among the most popular on New Zealand television, with two out of three Kiwis watching it in 2024.

The Chase UK is on TVNZ1 at 5pm daily and on TVNZ+
