More than 20 popular snack products sold under the Tasti brand are being urgently recalled across New Zealand due to the possible presence of small wire-like metal pieces.
The “significant recall” impacted various Tasti brand bars, peanuts, and snack ball products sold at supermarkets and retailers nationwide.
New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle said the concern was that the products could cause injury, but that no reports of associated injury had been received.
“Affected products have been removed from shelves. If you have any at home, don’t eat them. You can return them to the place of purchase for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw them out,” he said.
Not all batches and flavours were affected, and consumers were urged to check the information on the recall page carefully.
Arbuckle said NZFS would work with Tasti Products Ltd to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence.
“Some affected product has been exported to Australia, Fiji, India and Singapore. New Zealand Food Safety has informed food safety authorities in those countries.”
In a statement on its website, Tasti Products Ltd acknowledged the recall.
“Our stringent food safety systems identified the potential presence of exceptionally thin metal wire originating from imported raw materials used in a selection of our products,” it read.
“The safety of our customers is our top priority so we have recalled some of the products in specific ranges and are advising customers to dispose of the product.”
