Many areas across Aotearoa are in for a “frosty, foggier conditions” this week as temperatures plummet, according to MetService.

MetService meteorologist Oscar Shiviti told 1News it was a frosty start for many across the country today.

“I don’t know if this is good or bad news, but we’re not really expecting a change in the weather for most of the week.”

He said a high-pressure system was going to be sitting over New Zealand for most of the week, resulting in “settled, fine weather for most places”.

“Also [a] continued trend of those frosty and foggier conditions in the morning and late at night.

As of 7am, he said Christchurch recorded -3.8C, and Taumaramui hit -3.6C.

“Most of them are all below 10C, so all single digits, but it looks like Kaitaia was the warmest place in the country this morning at 9C,” Shiviti said.

He said these frosty conditions would continue for the whole week, before an approaching front from the Tasman Sea swept through around Friday.
