A man has been charged with arson following a “suspicious” house fire in Levin this morning.
The fire on Cambridge St was reported to emergency services around 4.15am, Detective Sergeant Shelley Ross said.
“Fortunately, the occupants of the house escaped without injury.”
A 40-year-old Levin man has been taken into custody.
He is due to appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Monday charged with arson.
Anyone in the area with CCTV has been asked to contact police.
Police are also seeking information on the movements of a red Suzuki Swift in the area at the time.

The incident is the third house fire across the country this morning.
Four people were injured in a house fire in Dunedin’s Saint Clair shortly before 3am.
Three hours later, emergency services were called to a house fire in Marton, where one person was found dead.
