Auckland firefighters have battled a ferocious blaze that engulfed a boat at a Whangaparāoa storage yard overnight.

Fire and Emergency (FENZ) crews were called to Poplar Rd, Stanmore Bay, just before 2.30am, where they found the 16-metre vessel engulfed in flames.

A FENZ spokesperson said the third-alarm fire was contained to the boat. Twelve trucks attended to the blaze from multiple fire stations.

“The fire has been extinguished, but crews are working on the hot spots,” they said.

The boat, measuring 16 metres by 3 metres, was located in a storage area and out of the water when the fire broke out, according to FENZ.

Crews remained on site into the morning, dampening down hot spots. FENZ said it hadn’t yet requested a fire investigator to attend.
