A young person has been arrested after a spate of robberies and burglaries in Invercargill earlier this week.

Police were also looking for information on two vehicles seen in the area at the time of the incidents.

Police responded to two aggravated robberies, two burglaries, and an attempted burglary between 1.50am and 4.30am on Monday morning.

One of the incidents, at a premises on Dee Street, allegedly saw two people enter a store, demand cash, and assault a worker.

An attempted burglary and two burglaries were reported at three further premises on Windsor St, Elles Rd and Yarrow St.

Police then received a report that two people had entered a Tay St premises and demanded cash and items.

“Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, but the victims were understandably upset and shaken by what occurred,” Detective Inspector Stu Harvey said today.

Police said this morning that a young person was arrested over the incidents and faced several charges. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Invercargill Youth Court today.

Harvey said the investigation into the offending was “still very much active”.

“We understand these events are unnerving for our community, and we are working hard to locate those we believe to be involved,” Harvey said.

Information on vehicles sought

Harvey pleaded for the public’s help in the investigation and said police were looking for information about two vehicles seen in the area of some of the incidents.

A red Toyota Vitz involved in the offending was recovered while the other vehicle was described “only as a car”.

“Police would like to speak to anyone who saw vehicles fitting these descriptions between 1am and 5am on Monday,” Varvey said.

Anyone with information was asked to call police on 105.
