A woman critically hurt in a crash in Murchison spent almost 36 hours in the car before being found.

Named by a friend as Hope Hoyland, police said she was found in her car down a bank on Mangles Valley Rd, between Blackwater Rd and Huntaway Rd, on Wednesday morning.

St John said one patient in a critical condition was airlifted to Wellington Hospital.

Hoyland had gone off the road two days earlier, said her friend Samara Anderson.

“She wasn’t found until Wednesday morning, March 5th—over 36 hours later. By some miracle, she was still alive, but in a critical condition.

“She was airlifted to Wellington Hospital with her mum and is now in an induced coma, fighting for her life.”

A Givealittle page had been set up to go towards Hoyland’s recovery and as of 12pm on Monday, it had raised close to $6000.

“Hope is the most incredible person—kind, strong, and full of love,” said Anderson on the page.

“She is also a devoted single mum to her two young boys, who are her whole world.”

Funds would go to supporting Hope’s recovery, covering medical costs, helping with her mother’s accommodation while in Wellington and supporting her children.

“Right now, as Hope fights to come back to them, we want to do everything we can to support her and her family,” Anderson said.
