A motorcyclist has been critically injured after serious crash closed part of State Highway 73 in Christchurch this morning.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said Curletts Rd (State Highway 73) was blocked at the intersection of Lunns Rd, following the crash involving a car and a motorbike shortly before 6am.
Police said the serious crash unit was attending.
St John said one ambulance and three rapid response units attended the incident.
“One patient was transported to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition,” a spokesperson said.
Motorists were advised to use alternative routes.
New Zealand Transport Waka Kotahi said the road has reopened to southbound traffic but that access to Lunns Rd remains unavailable while cleanup continues.
“Northbound and southbound traffic are free-flowing through the area.”
Footage captured by 1News at the scene shows police at the scene and hoisting the motorcycle onto a tow truck.
