Two people have died after a crash involving three vehicles in South Auckland overnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Takanini at about 12.25am this morning.

The collision at the intersection of Great South Road and Walter Strevens Drive involved a truck and two cars, a police spokesperson said.

“Two people in one of the cars died, while the driver of the second car had minor injuries. The driver of the truck was uninjured,” the spokesperson said.

“Cordons were in place for several hours, and the Serious Crash Unit attended the scene.”

A St John spokesperson said one ambulance and three rapid response units attended the scene.

One person was taken to Middlemore Hospital, the spokesperson said.
