A man has been injured after his car fell 15m off the road onto its roof near Colville, on the Coromandel Peninsula, this morning.

St John said it was alerted to the incident around 11.50am.

“We responded with one ambulance, a PRIME doctor and a first response unit,” a spokesperson said.

A PRIME doctor is a specially trained rural GP who assists St John when ambulance response time due to long travel distances would be unsafe for patients.

An Auckland Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said crews were notified at 12.06pm of the incident.

“He was extricated by bystanders and then extracted by winch by Westpac 1 crew and flown to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.”
