The person found dead after a “well-involved” house fire in Auckland’s Māngere yesterday was a young child, police have confirmed.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Tidal Rd at about 1.20pm on Saturday.

In an update, a police spokesperson said this morning: “A scene examination is taking place today to determine the cause of the fire.

“At this stage, there is no further information available as enquiries are ongoing.”

Four fire trucks responded to put the blaze out, according to Fire and Emergency.

“It was a 15m by 10m dwelling that was well-involved in fire upon our arrival.”

Four patients in a minor condition were treated at the scene.
