An Air New Zealand flight has had to be cancelled after a bird strike during landing at Invercargill Airport this morning.

NZ5719 from Christchurch experienced a bird strike upon landing at shortly after 10am.

Air New Zealand chief operating officer Alex Marren said the aircraft had been looked over by engineering staff and returned to service.

“This includes removing the nose of the aircraft, which is standard procedure when there has been a bird strike to the front of the aircraft.

“As a result, NZ5702 from Invercargill to Christchurch has been cancelled and customers have been re-accommodated. We want to thank them for their patience while we worked through this disruption.”
