A woman has been charged with murder after a 24-year-old Hamilton man was found dead in a driveway last month.
The woman, also aged 24, was arrested shortly after the incident in the suburb of Melville and initially charged with assault. She has been granted name suppression after she faced court earlier today.
She is due to reappear in court on February 8.
Detective Senior Sergeant Terri Wilson said today that authorities were continuing to appeal for information from the public over the alleged murder.
Just past midnight on December 30, police were called to a man “found unresponsive in the driveway” of a house on Sundown Crescent.
Officers and paramedics responded but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Hamilton man Te Reo Wickliffe-Heta, 24.
At the time, police suggested the man had “earlier been involved in an incident at another property” on the same street prior to being found unresponsive.
Wilson said today: “We know this will have been a shock to the community, however we would like to reassure them this was an isolated incident. This is a tragic event, and we are ensuring there is support in place for those closest to the victim.
“We are continuing to make inquiries, but also want to encourage anyone with information to get in contact with us as even the smallest detail could assist our investigation.”
People with information have been urged to contact 105.
