A 50-year-old man has been taken into custody after reports a gun was fired from a property in Whanganui.
Police were called to the scene at a home on Iwiroa Terrace in Durie Hill after reports of a man firing a gun.
“Police responded to reports armed as a precaution around 10.40pm, and were assisted by AOS (Armed Offenders Squad),” a police spokesperson said in a statement this morning.
The police negotiation team was also sent to “safely resolve the incident”.
Some properties were evacuated during the incident “as a precaution”.
“A 50-year-old man was taken into custody and the process of getting this man the help he needs has begun.”
No one was injured in the incident.
Whanganui Detective Senior Sergeant Phil Taylor said officers will be knocking on doors in the area to provide assistance following last night’s events.
“An event like this can be frightening, and we want to ensure everyone knows how to access support as required,” he said.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is being asked to call police on 105.
