Last year’s Galaxy Unpacked event was all about Samsung showing off its AI-powered tricks for the S24 lineup. While impressive, a lot of it felt like catching up to competitors. Now, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event is just days away, and the rumor mill is buzzing with potential announcements. What’s actually set to launch, and what’s just wild speculation?
The big headliner will obviously be the new Galaxy S series, but there’s also talk of a Galaxy Ring and Samsung’s first mixed-reality headset for Android XR. Let’s break down what’s likely coming and what might just stay in the rumor pile.
The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event is happening on January 22 in San Jose, California. It’s invite-only for media and partners, but you can watch the live stream below.
The event starts at:
Samsung’s 2025 flagship lineup is sticking with the usual trio: the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25, and Galaxy S25+.
Evleaks recently dropped a couple of images of the new Galaxy S25 series. One of them shows a blue Galaxy S25 (or possibly S25 Plus) lying face down, with a silver variant at the top of the frame.
A big focus will be new Galaxy AI features. Brazilian site Tecnoblog got its hands on what look like official promo materials ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked event. These images hint at some impressive AI updates.
Here’s what the Galaxy S25 series is rumored to include:
In the US (and probably most other markets), the Galaxy S25 models will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. That could be different in some regions, though, as we might see Exynos powering certain models in Europe and elsewhere. Storage options are expected to start at 128GB, with some versions offering up to 1TB.
There’s also chatter about Samsung unveiling the Galaxy S25 Slim next week. But with so few leaks about it compared to the rest of the lineup, I wouldn’t get my hopes up just yet.
ICE UNIVERSE recently shared a render of the Galaxy S25 Ultra on X, showing it alongside Samsung’s latest premium models. Right away, you’ll notice the design is much rounder, and the bezels are thinner than ever—possibly the smallest I’ve seen on a smartphone.
The design tweak brings it more in line with the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus, which also have rounded corners. The Galaxy Ultra models have had sharp edges since their launch in 2020, but it makes sense that Samsung would go for a more uniform look across its flagship phones.
I’m not exactly sure when the whole bezel obsession started in the smartphone world. I’m all for sleek, modern designs and bigger screens, but at some point, it does make me wonder if we’re losing more comfort than we’re gaining. The bezels do make a phone much easier to hold, especially without a case.
What’s more, not much will change in terms of size, except for the screen. The S24 Ultra had a 6.8-inch display, which was already pretty huge. But the S25 Ultra might have a 6.9-inch display.
A new report from insider Ahmed Qwaider suggests the S25 Ultra will bring significant improvements to photo and video quality. While the specifics aren’t clear, earlier leaks hint at better video quality in low light, thanks to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, along with improved ultra-wide video resolution.
Samsung kicked off the One UI 7 beta program in December 2024, rolling it out to almost a handful of markets worldwide. It’s cool to see Samsung make big design changes and smoother animations, though I can’t help but feel they took a little inspiration from Apple’s UI. While a lot of people like the update, many feel it didn’t quite live up to the hype.
At Unpacked, I’m expecting Samsung to not just drop the stable version of One UI 7 for the Galaxy S25 series, but also dive into its main features.
I’m also hoping they’ll share a timeline for when older Galaxy flagships will get the update. It’s pretty likely that Galaxy S24 users who’ve been testing the beta will get the stable version right after Unpacked, or even on the same day.
Right now, I’m still unsure if the new AI features will only work on the S25 series, or if One UI 7 will bring them to other models as well.
Samsung has 2 main goals for 2025: adding more AI and creating a product ecosystem to compete with Apple, writes Bloomberg’s Vlad Savov. The Galaxy Ring is part of that plan.
Released last summer for $399, the Galaxy Ring doesn’t quite live up to its price. It falls short on one key feature—accurately tracking health data.
As for the Galaxy Ring 2, details are still unclear. Some reports claim the company might tease it next week, but that seems unlikely. After all, they only released the first version back in July. For reference, Oura takes years between their ring releases—2015 for the first, then 2018, 2021, and 2024 for the fourth generation.
What we do know is that at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2025, they’ll be adding more sizes to the Galaxy Ring. Sizes 14 and 15 will be available, making it easier for more people to try it out.
About a month ago, Samsung and Google unveiled the Android XR, a new operating system that combines years of development in AI, AR, and VR to create more useful experiences for headsets and glasses. With Android XR, these glasses can assist with tasks using AI, along with providing helpful features like turn-by-turn directions for pedestrians.
“Samsung will be the first of several brands to sell a mixed-reality headset powered by Google’s recently unveiled Android XR platform,” writes Dana Wollman. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if Samsung gave a sneak peek of its AR glasses at the event.
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked events never fail to spark excitement, and 2025 is shaping up to be no different. From the highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series to whispers of a mixed-reality headset and expanded Galaxy Ring options, there’s plenty to look forward to. I’ll be watching to see which rumors come true—because let’s face it, with Samsung, there’s always a surprise or two in store.
