Following the Bears' trade, the Miami Dolphins may be forced to assign WR Chase Claypool to an entirely new position.

Mike McDaniel may be the NFL's most astute head coach. And if this latest rumored move goes through, it will undoubtedly add another impressive line to his burgeoning resume.

Many people were perplexed when the Miami Dolphins traded for former Chicago Bears wideout Chase Claypool.

After all, the Dolphins already have a plethora of talent at wide receiver — and there are only so many targets available.

With such a congested receiver room, how could they possible make good use of Claypool?

McDaniel later explained that he preferred Claypool because he's "fast," but it looks that there's more to it than that.

The Dolphins may investigate deploying Claypool at tight end, according to NFL insider Jonathan Jones.

Durham Smythe is currently listed as the Dolphins' top tight end on the depth chart. He's had 11 catches and 123 yards in four games this season, which isn't exactly impressive.

Claypool has the size to be an NFL tight end, standing 6'4" and weighing 238 pounds. The concern is whether his unwillingness to block at times will preclude the Dolphins from using him in this role.

Unfortunately, we won't get a clearer understanding of Mike McDaniel's plans for Claypool this weekend, as the former Steelers first-round pick is not anticipated to suit up after his trade.

When the Dolphins return to practice ahead of their Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers, we should have a better understanding of Claypool's role.
