As a work-from-home mom with 2 kids and a husband, I’ve long been a fan of robot vacuum mops. Basically, at this point, I’ll take any cleaning help I can get. So when I got the offer to write a hands-on ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S OmniCyclone review, I jumped at it.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S OmniCyclone is an exciting new robot vacuum/mop. It launched at IFA Berlin on September 4, 2026, with headline features like 27,000Pa suction, dust-mite allergen removal, and a bagless design—enticing promises for this city-based mom with allergies.

But at $1,299.99, I knew I had my work cut out for me. It’s a pricey vacuum, even with the cool capabilities.

So, is the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S OmniCyclone worth it? And if so, who’s it for?

ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S OmniCyclone: Price and what’s new

The DEEBOT X12S OmniCyclone is a mid-cycle refresh of the X12 flagship model, with suction up to 27,000 Pa, about 23% more than the X12S. The current price is $1,299.99, but it debuted at a discounted price of $999.

At $1,299.99, the X12S should have the latest features, and it does: bagless station, self-cleaning roller mop, navigation/obstacle avoidance, and general self-cleaning. It responds to voice commands and, via the Autonomous AI Agent Manager, can create voice-activated cleaning plans based on our daily habits. I didn’t realize this at first, but it also has Native Obstacle Crossing. More on that later.

As a consumer journalist, I can tell you that’s fancy stuff in the robot vacuum world.

What’s in the box?

In the box, you get the DEEBOT, OMNI Station, Base, 1 bottle of ECOVACS DEEBOT Cleaning Solution, 1 bottle of ECOVACS DEEBOT Heavy-Duty Cleaning Solution, a power cord, instruction manual, and a corner guard (for the corners of the OMNI station.

Setting up the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S was surprisingly easy

Going into this review, I didn’t have high hopes for this section because cutting-edge tech products usually = a hassle-y setup. To my surprise, though, getting the Deebot X12S up and ready was pretty simple.

Unboxing was easy, since there were just a few basic parts to deal with. I removed all protective packaging from the OMNI station. Next, I installed the base and filled the water station with water and the two cleaning solutions.

The Ecovacs Home app

To set up the DEEBOT, I scanned the QR code in the quick start to install the ECOVACS HOME app. Then I scanned another QR code on the DEEBOT itself to complete the network setup. Everything worked—there were no hitches pairing the robot with the app or our network.

After a short charge, the robot was ready to map our house.

The X12S OmniCyclone Station is a huge part of the experience

One of my favorite bits about the X12S is the OMNI station. After the robot finishes cleaning, it returns to the station and automatically transfers debris from its bin into a larger, bagless collection container.

That might sound like a small detail, but it’s one less household consumable I have to keep track of and replace. ECOVACS says its bagless system saves up to 25 dust bags over 5 years. The station also handles much of the mop care, washing the roller with hot water and helping dry it between cleans.

But bagless doesn’t mean maintenance-free. Actually, the X12S requires some regular care I didn’t expect, like emptying the dust container after each use and cleaning the drip tray every week. The brushes also need regular care and replacement, things you normally wouldn’t have to bother with (or, honestly, pay for) on a regular push vacuum.

The design is pretty slick for a robot vacuum. The OMNI Station—the part that houses the water, solution, and the DEEBOT while it’s charging—is a clean-lined rectangle with a metallic-hued exterior. I find the design quite nice for a vacuum, so I actually set up the OMNI Station in my living room.

The DEEBOT has the same metallic-hued exterior as the station. While it moves around the house, it doesn’t look like a big, bulky cleaning gadget—I wouldn’t mind it surfing the hallways, even if we had visitors.

Overall, it’s a stylish duo, so I could see it working fine even in a “good” living room. It’s definitely not a vacuum you have to hide in a closet.

How well does the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S actually vacuum?

I’m gonna be real with you, my kids are crumb creators. Yep, if they have food on their plates—even soup—there will be crumbs on the floor by the end of the meal. That’s just a law of nature.

Hard floors

So, how did DEEBOT handle our family’s post-meal shenanigans? Pretty well, actually. The after-dinner crumbs under our dinner table on the hardwood floor were gone, so I didn’t have to wipe up after the kids went to bed like I usually do. But some dust under the table legs remained—the DEEBOT just couldn’t get under that, but I expected that.

Playing with the ECOVACS Home app later that night, I found that I could even schedule the DEEBOT to clean under the table after mealtime. I didn’t have time to try the feature before writing, but I plan to. When that happens, I’ll update this review.

Carpets and rugs

Our apartment’s main flooring type is hardwood, except for the kitchen and bathrooms. We do have some large area rugs, so I tested the DEEBOT X12S’s carpet capabilities there. I was pretty impressed. After just one session on 4 rugs, the debris container was full—I guess we track in more debris than I thought!

I found the DEEBOT handled the rugs carefully. Only once, on its first attempt at cleaning an IKEA area rug in my kids’ room, did it trip up a little. It accidentally sucked in the corner of the carpet, but quickly corrected itself. It was never an issue in later cleaning sessions.

How well does the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S mop?

I was also happy with how the X12S mopped. Our home is older, and its hardwood floors need a nearly dry mop. And that’s exactly what the DEEBOT did. I found it used very little water, and the floors dried almost immediately.

But if your floors aren’t as sensitive and you’d like a heavier-duty clean, the robot has a jet mop setting you can set in the app. I didn’t try that during my initial tests since I was more focused on whole-house cleaning. In future tests, I’ll attempt the jet mop in my kitchen and report back here.

ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S: Navigation and obstacle avoidance

For anyone on the fence about a robot vacuum, this is a big one. Because the worry is always: will this thing damage furniture or suck up something important, like a fallen earring?

The X12S has onboard navigation and obstacle avoidance. I found that it carefully navigates around furniture and typical household items like backpacks and bicycles. It did suck up one of my husband’s socks, though, so you definitely still need to scan your house before you tell the robot to run.

What I don’t love about the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S

Overall, the X12S exceeded my expectations, but there were some things that bugged me. First, while the app looks simple, it took me quite some time to figure out where all the settings were and how to schedule cleans. I think app navigation should be more intuitive. If you’ve bought a robot vacuum, you probably need to save time, and not spend any extra trying to figure out the app.

And that brings me to another hang-up. The X12S, while powerful and bagless, still requires a good bit of maintenance and replacement parts. Some parts need per-session cleaning, while others need weekly, biweekly, monthly, or 3-6 month cleaning. That’s maintenance I wouldn’t have with a simple bagless vacuum. Meanwhile, you’re replacing rollers, brushes, and filters—additional expenses I didn’t expect.

What I loved about the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S

The ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S is a really cool robot vacuum and mop. I love how it autonomously navigates my home and gives it a pretty thorough clean. It’s like I’ve gone through the entire apartment with my stick vac and Swiffer. The results aren’t bad, and with simple cleans on autopilot, my home will be healthier.

Speaking of health, since I’ve started using the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S, I’m sneezing less. Yes, I have a dust allergy, and the anti-mite chamber seems to be helping. According to ECOVACS, it has a mite removal rate of up to 95.45%, based on SGS testing.

I also appreciate how it responds to voice commands. A simple “Hey Eco” wakes it up. From there, you can ask it to start or stop cleaning, and even schedule cleans.

The 1.0 in Native Obstacle Crossing was interesting too. I don’t have thresholds or in-floor dividers in my home, but my treadmill lifts and leaves some support bars on the floor. To my surprise, the DEEBOT was able to lift itself and maneuver over them. So if you have a 1-inch lift in your home, the robot can go over it.

Is the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S worth $1,299.99?

The ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S is an impressive robot vacuum—powerful, adaptable, and careful —and it even handles some of its own maintenance. So I think it is worth the price tag—for the right buyer.

Who should buy the X12S?

Who is the right buyer? Someone who wants to automate home cleaning and doesn’t mind spending $1,299.99+ on the appliance and replacement brushes, filters, and cleaning solution for a general surface clean.

People who are relatively tech savvy and work outside the home during the week are great candidates. Stay-at-home parents, remote workers, and even retirees are great candidates, too. And if you live in a one-floor house, you’re golden.

You can expect decent, regular cleaning from this robot. Just don’t think it’s completely maintenance-free; it’s not. It also won’t take care of deep cleaning. Yep, you’ll still have to move furniture and vacuum the top of the sideboards yourself.

Who should skip the X12S?

Anyone on a budget who can’t commit to regular robot maintenance should skip the X12S. Yes, it’s expensive; no, it doesn’t take care of itself entirely. If you’re a young professional or a student in your first apartment, you’re likely on the go a lot. Sticking to the X12S might be tough.

Likewise, if you live in a multi-level home, the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S might prove inconvenient. It returns to its station frequently during cleaning to empty debris and clean its mop pads. For the best clean, you’d have to move the station between floors.

ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S OmniCycle Review: Final Verdict

I like the ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S more than I expected. If I could design my ideal robot vacuum, this would be pretty close to it. That said, $1,299.99 is a lot for something that still needs maintenance and replacement parts and doesn’t deep clean.

But if you absolutely cannot stick to a regular cleaning schedule, don’t mind the price tag, and can handle the maintenance, you’ll be happy with this product. It puts everyday cleaning on autopilot, so you can be sure your home stays healthy without all the hands-on work. Deep cleaning will still be your job, though.

Ultimately, the DEEBOT X12S OmniCycle is best for busy households that go for convenience. If you want to spend less time thinking about dirty floors, this device is an impressive way to do it.
